Easily Create Procedural Glitch Text in After Effects

Kyle Martinez shares his expression that can create procedural glitch text in Ae.

If you are the kind of motion designer that is looking for new ways to bring type on the screen, then you should check out this expression by Kyle Martinez. Glitch Text for After Effects lets you change the text to whatever you want, while automatically bringing the characters on using a glitch effect.

“I recently put together some fun glitch text for a client project. It’s created with an expression and is completely procedural,” Martinez says. “The studio I was working with sent over a really neat website as a reference.” The effect uses two sliders for controlling the animation over time. The Character Offset Percentage control animates and controls how many characters are randomized while the Posterize Time slider controls how fast the expression updates.
