Working With the Vray Clipper in Maya

Phil Radford offers some insights into working with the Vray Clipper object.

Most render engines will have a method for taking parts of an object away or a render-time boolean type of effect. With Vray, that is the Clipper, which can take on a couple of forms in Vray. You can either cut your models with a plane (perfect for cutaways) or other objects. Check out this new walkthrough by the Maya Guy Phil Radford, which shows off some of the capabilities of the Vray Clipper.

“We are using Clipper in lots of different ways to create new effects,” Radford says. “We look at how we can use different material effects to influence the clipped object, including displacement.” Some of the options open up a whole set of new possibilities for sure.
