How to Animate a Tree With MASH in Maya

SYIA Studios shows how you can use MASH in Maya to animate wind affecting a tree.

While more than a few tools out there allow you to create and animate trees in Maya procedurally, you can pretty much do it all with standard tools. This new tutorial from SYIA Studios shows how to make and animate a tree in Maya using MASH.

The tutorial shows how you can leverage Maya’s Paint Effects to help create the foliage textures for the tree while also using it to make the branches. MASH handles the distribution of the leaves and smaller branches on the tree, and the signal node runs the wind animation making the tree branches swaying in the wind.
