How to Create Clouds With Bifrost Through Volume Advection

Yingying Z shows how to create clouds by advecting a volume in Bifrost, plus some other tricks.

The last in the series to better understand Volumes in Bifrost, Autodesk’s Yingying Z, walks us through a method to create clouds through volume advection.

The process starts with a mesh that converts to a volume and generates a voxel field. Advecting the voxel field gets the cloud look and also provides density data. The whole thing converts back to a volume to form the cloud.

Maya Bifrost artist Bruce Lee shows off some of his new compounds for Maya Bifrost designed specifically for procedurally modeling clouds.

Another shows how Bruce created the great cumulus clouds cloudscape in the latest Bifrost release video.
