between the top and the bottom side of the cylinder the more distortion will creep into the UV map. That can be less than ideal, especially if you are trying to add a label to the object.

There are some things that you can do though, that can minimize the distortion on an irregular cylinder like a tapered one. Cinema 4D certified instructor Athanasios Pozantzis (NoseMan) shows how yo unwrap the UV’s of a bucket shaped container so that you can easily apply the correct label shape to the object.

An Alternate Method

Inspired by Pozantzis’ solution, Ilir Beqiri shares an alternative method for projecting UV’s and unwrapping for a tapered cylinder shape.

This quick tip is an alternative method of UV projection and unwrapping to Athanasios Pozantzis (@nosemangr) tutorial “Labels for bucket shaped containers. “I have used his method a lot in the past until I discovered this one and when I saw his video online, couldn’t resist sharing. Both methods work great, the principle is the same, I omit nothing to his version. Just thought you should know this one too.” says Beqiri.
