How to Build Splines in Maya Entirely With Matrix Connections

Cole O’Brien shows how to make Matrix Splines in Maya.

Autodesk Maya 2020 included new matrix-driven transforms and operation nodes, making it possible to clean up many rigging setups. That translates to fewer node spiderwebs, cleaner rigs, neater outliners, and faster evaluations for artists. Over the last year, Cole O’Brien experimented with building splines entirely out of Maya’s matrix connections and details his findings.

Another look into Maya’s matrix stuff is by the Maya Learning Channel, covering working with the Offset Parent Matrix and Autodesk Maya’s senior product owner Will Telford walking through offset parent matrix. Using the Parent Matrix, you can cut down on the number of joints, speed up your rig performance, and allow for more adaptability.
