Lee Griggs shows how to use the new Distance Out parameter for the Arnold Distance Shader.
An Arnold Render update sees a new attribute added to the Distance Shader. A recent node to Arnold is the Distance Shader which uses sampling to estimate the distance from the shading point to the nearest surface. The latest update expanded the shader to include a Distance Out parameter that returns the direction to the nearest surface.
Here Autodesk’s Arnold Rendering Specialist Lee Griggs shows how to create an eye makeup shading effect using distance.out_direction found in version 7.2.3.0.
