Tokyo based Artist and Animator James Marijeanne has been posting some great insights into the animation process specifically for video games. A recent posting has James discussing what he calls a really important and under talked-about portion of the video game animation process — Animation transitions.

one of the most important, yet not often talked about part of the video game animation process: transitions.

Animation transitions are the link between all of the game animation cycles, which can really make or break the perception in the quality of animation being put forward.

This represents the fourth installment in the series, which started out with a look into understanding the video game animation tree for interactive character animation, and then moved on to Basic Animation, and developing walk and run cycle animations.
